Les Gets To Offer Free Skiing For Opening Weekend

Les Gets in the French Portes du Soleil region has announced it will open this weekend, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December 2009, running its lifts free of charge for guests lucky enough to be in resort.

The La Croix chairlift and Chavannes cable car will be first to open from 9am on Saturday with the : Plateau des Chavannes slope sector open. You’ll need to take the cable car back down to the village when you finish skiing.
For cross country skiers there’ll be as green loop open on the Chauvannes side.
Guests who so wish will be able to donate to the French charity Téléthon, with collecting boxes available for donations.

Swiss airlines to pick up Manchester to Geneva flights

Swiss International Air Lines will repeat its winter service from Manchester to Geneva, which is targeted at skiers in the north-west.

The airline said the link proved popular last year, demonstrating there is demand not catered for by charter or no-frills carriers.

Swiss will fly twice a week until April 11. A Sunday service leaving at 10.00 will start on December 20, while a Saturday service departing at 17.15 will resume on Boxing Day.

The flights are targeted at those heading for Geneva and surrounding ski resorts such as Les Gets, Morzine, Megeve, Chatel, Avoriaz, Chamonix, Villars and Verbier.

Return fares will start at £76.80, with one piece of ski or snowboard equipment allowed for free.

The move comes as a boost to Manchester, which over the past year has lost several long-haul routes, and suffered from Ryanair scrapping 90% of its services from the airport.

The new flight was welcomed by Trevor Davis, retail distribution director at Co-operative Travel, which sends a large proportion of its customers through Manchester.

“After a difficult year for the travel industry, could such a positive move reflect a growing confidence in both the economy and in travel?” he asked.

“I am hopeful that it could represent the start of the green shoots of recovery, and pave the way for the industry to return to pre-recession levels.

“Airports and airlines do not add routes unless they are confident that they will sell, and customers will benefit from the additional choice.”

Gets Envie de Rock 14.08.09

15 groupes vont se produire sur différentes terrasses de la station, notamment dans la rue du centre. Grâce à un système d’urnes, le public pourra voter pour son groupe préféré ! Le groupe qui aura récolté le plus de vote durant l’après-midi pourra se produire sur une scène parallèle en ouverture du Summer Tour de NRJ avec Mickael Jones et des DJ’s NRJ à 20H30 en plein air, cour de la maison des Gets, concert gratuit bien évidemment !

 

15 bands will be playing all around Les Gets town, mainly along the main road. The public are to choose their favourite of the day. The band with the most votes throughout the afternoon gets to join in opening the NRJ Summer Tour with Mickael Jones and NRJ DJs live from 8.30pm out the front of the ‘Maison des Gets’ – Concert is free of course.
