Cheaper meals in French Ski Resorts!

4 07 2009

Finally, some good news for the non EU skier! As of Wednesday the 1st of July, restaurants and cafés in France will enjoy a massive cut in VAT which will, in turn, be passed onto their customers. The French Government is hoping that this will help the pound-wielding holiday maker cope with the strength of the Euro and make France a more attractive destination.

On last year’s ski trips most found the price of mountain restaurants to be so prohibitively high that many took a packed lunch onto the hill with them. This new tax cut will make things that little bit more affordable and the lunchtime tartiflette will be making a comeback next winter!! It also makes your night out (when the chalet staff are off) that little bit more affordable and those cheeky jambon mozzarella paninis that touch more enjoyable.

If you are looking to get the most for your money next year, there are some phenomenal bargains around at the moment. Also, it is now cheaper as a group to hire a self catered chalet and a private chef than it is to stay in catered chalets. You still get the same service as a catered chalet as most management companies can arrange cheap transfer, car hire, ski delivery etc for you! When this happens prices tend to go up and there is an initial flurry of bookings. This means the prices will be higher and you will not have as much choice if you leave it much longer to make a decision. If you are going skiing next year with a group and you haven’t booked yet, it makes financial sense to book sooner rather than later and to look for the Independent Company rather than big ones such as Thompsons & Crystal etc.
